UK Armed Forces Women vs Wales Women
Cardiff Arms Park
Friday 11 November 16
The UK Armed Forces have released their squad selections for this year’s Remembrance fixtures. Serving military personnel from the best of the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force Women’s rugby teams will take the field to face Wales Women at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Friday the 11th of November, raising funds for the Royal British Legion.
11th November, Armistice Day, is always a poignant day in the calendar. In 2016, it also marks the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, giving this game particular significance. All members of the UK Armed Forces team have deployed around the world, with many putting their lives on the line for their country
Women’s rugby has experienced a surge since the World Cup in the summer of 2014, and with the success of the women’s Six Nations this summer the sport is going from strength to strength.
Some of the greatest names in world women’s rugby will be on the pitch as both the UKAF and the Wales women’s squads are packed with talent, including a number of Women’s Premiership players. However, this year’s game has an extra twist as the UKAF has a number of Wales’s internationals within its ranks. Capt Gemma Rowland, AC Charlotte Murray, Bdr Bethan Dainton and SAC Sian Williams have all represented Wales and will soon be facing off against their international team mates.
A number of players on both sides who are current or aspiring internationals will have half and eye on next year’s world cup and will want to impress. With so much experience and talent on display a fiery and skilful contest is assured.
